Daily Note (11th August 2026)

Still shopping for computers, replying to emails, and generally not being very productive. Also was a slow day generally, I had a lot of trouble getting out of bed in the morning and everything was running a bit late. Need to see if there's something I'm doing that's impacting my sleep quality.

The all-sky versions of ALLWISE, GALEX, PanSTARRS and DES are running currently, but need some handholding as they get data off TAP. It is interesting that the interface works well with a (square) cone centered on a point, but not a WHERE RA BETWEEN x AND y kind of query.

Got a really nice set of comments from Ofer and Ignacio about AG's SFH compression project. Very constructive overall, with some interesting points about adding spectral features and what it means to lose sensitivity in a certain range of timescales. They also agree that the interpretability analysis we've included is key to explaining what physical information gets encoded (and lost) when we compress SFHs.

Put in an Anthropic AI4science proposal requesting credits for Lodestone. Still waiting on the GPT for Academic Researchers thing to finish their review and come through (if it does). Need to reactivate my 90-day extension on rusty so that I can at least get LtU work done there.
